Expert fire remediation of an occupied residential building
MK Facades were employed as the Principle Contractor for all building envelope works on a luxury development set back from Wandsworth High Street in London. The development, comprising apartments with up to four bedrooms, required works carried out across several of its buildings.
Different buildings. Unique requirements.
In working to remove and replace defective ACM cladding, MK Facades treated each of the development’s buildings as a standalone project. This ensured the focus required to design, engineer and install replacement facades that would meet each brief with absolute precision.
The development is in a logistically challenging location, so MK Facades identified proactive pre-planning as essential to the project’s success. With work often at different stages across the development’s buildings, MK Facades employed the services of Proplant Scaffolding and worked collaboratively to mitigated material logistics and onsite storage issues by considering each stage of the project thoroughly in advance, which kept things running smoothly, safely, and without undue disruption to residents.
Innovating to overcome complexity
The geometry of some the apartments presented access challenges, but in further collaboration with Proplant, MK Facades overcame them. Designing and installing a modular beam solution to span the building negated any need for additional mid- span supports above living areas, or large cranes for installation. To access high-level works, MK Facades and Proplant devised a scaffold system hanging from a bespoke rail system located on the building’s roof – significantly reducing any intrusion or other negative impact on residents.
Treating residents as key stakeholders
Before starting any works on the building envelope, MK Facades presented the design, supply and installation plans to residents and took on board all feedback. Throughout the live project, residents remained informed of the project timeline and its progress, with all resident liaison managed through a single point of contact at the Client. This allowed MK Facades to focus on achieving the designated works within tight timelines.
